Giant construction: Amur GPP

Giant construction: Amur GPP

The Amur Gas Processing Plant (GPP) is being built in the Amur Region, not far from Blagoveshchensk and the city of Svobodny. What do we know about this project of PJSC Gazprom, which in the near future will become the second largest natural gas processing company in the world and the largest helium production in the world?

  • The plant area is 800 hectares, the total land area of all enterprise facilities is about 1800 hectares.
  • The approximate cost of the project is 790.6 billion rubles.
  • Designed natural gas processing capacity is 42 billion cubic meters. m per year.
  • Helium production - up to 60 million cubic meters m per year.
  • The number of employees of the future enterprise is more than 3000 people.
  • Residential district in Svobodny for 5,000 residents for plant employees and their families.
  • Construction of access roads, railway lines and a pier on the Zeya River.
  • Due to modern sewage facilities of the plant, household, rain and industrial rainwater is treated to the degree of suitability for discharge into fishery waters.
  • The commissioning of the first two out of six production lines already in 2021, the opening of the plant in 2024, reaching full capacity by the beginning of 2025.

The Amur GPP is an important link in the technological chain of natural gas supplies to China through the Power of Siberia gas pipeline. The work will be organized as follows:

  1. The plant receives multicomponent gas. The Yakutsk and Irkutsk gas production centers, which Gazprom is constantly developing as part of the Eastern Gas Program;
  2. The company is processing natural gas;
  3. The processed gas is supplied to China.

The Amur Gas Processing Plant started the construction in October 2015. By January 2020, the overall progress of the project was 55%. At what stage is it now:

  • installation of large-capacity equipment was completely accomplished;
  • installation of product storage tanks at the second helium purification and liquefaction installation;
  • earthworks and piling work on all six production lines were completed;
  • installation of metal structures, arrangement of foundations, concrete work, installation of elevated and underground pipelines;
  • work are conducted at the main energy facilities to prepare for the supply of electricity in the first quarter of 2020;
  • installation of the main tanks at the sewage treatment plants and water treatment plants;
  • installation and welding of pipelines on the North-South and West-East racks is ongoing;
  • construction of a nitrogen-air station continues.

On February 28th, 2020, individual tests of power equipment began at the first start-up complex of the plant: installation quality was checked, control, protection and alarm systems were tested.

About 16 thousand builders and 2 thousand units of construction equipment are working at the facility, about 100 units of which are self-propelled lifts. Approximately 70 delivered by VERTEX. Most of them are articulated type high-altitude machines from 26 up to 48 m working height, such as Haulotte HA 26 RTJ PRO, Haulotte HA 32 RTJ PRO, Haulotte HA 41 RTJ PRO, JLG 600 AJ, JLG 800 AJ, JLG 1250 AJP and others. There are always 4 service specialists at the facility, because the equipment in this sharply continental climate, with large annual and daily variations in temperature, works at its maximum capacity. Any stoppage of the machine requires prompt response to avoid more significant shutdown and downtime.

The Amur Gas Processing Plant is a large-scale and significant project not only on a Russian but also on a global scale; it can be called a 21st century construction site. Therefore, you must admit that being among the 1000 equipment suppliers from all over the world and more than 500 contracting organizations that are involved in the implementation of this project is very honorable for VERTEX, but we realize that it is also a great responsibility.
